Maine's industry, like it's people, is unique and rich in history.
Throughout the 19th century the state emerged with industry in
mining, lumbering, fishing, and boat building.   Other big business
included ice harvesting, granite and lime quarrying.

Responding to Thomas Edison's discoveries in the 1890's, Maine began
utilizing its vast river resources for the development of hydroelectric
power.  Textiles, paper, and leather products all become primary
sources of manufacturing employment.

The great Depression of the 1930's brought the state's economy to a
grinding halt along with the rest of the nation.

After WWII Maine blossomed into Vacationland because of it's
beautiful geography, quaint life appeal, and historic architecture.
