The Narragansett has operated as a hotel since it's inception in the mid-1800's. Originally named the Maine Central Hotel, it became the Narragansett Hotel in the late 1800's. The hotel operated under that name from the turn of the century to the late 1950's. Following the Narragansett, the hotel became the Rockland Hotel and then the Wayfarer East. The name is being returned to the historical building as well as the grandeur it once exhibited.
